The city commissionerate police have requested the higher authorities for 14 companies of central paramilitary forces for the Lok Sabha elections to be held on April 30 in Punjab.
During 2012 state assembly elections, the commissionerate police had deputed six companies of central forces in the city area. Polling was held without any incident of violence.
Each company will have 80 personnel, who will be deputed under the jurisdiction of the commissionerate police during elections.

The commisionerate police have also formed a separate team of 45 policemen to tackle emergency situation, if any, till the completion of election process on April 30.
As many as 10 anti-riot teams have been formed by the commissionerate police to avoid any riot-like incident in sensitive locations on the polling day.
Separate platoons will also be prepared and they would also be trained on the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) campus for elections.
As the administration has yet to declare hyper-sensitive, sensitive and non-sensitive areas and the analysis is yet to be worked out in city, the police have been working on past records which include 71 hyper-sensitive, 152 sensitive and 86 non-sensitive polling booths.
Under the commissionerate police's jurisdiction, four assembly segments are Jalandhar west, Jalandhar south, Jalandhar central and Jalandhar north in the Jalandhar parliamentary (reserve) constituency.
Officials said the huge deployment of central forces was a step in ensuring a fair without violence.
Sources said senior officials were also planning to provide paramilitary cover to each polling booth.
Two companies of Punjab Armed Police personnel have been shifted to another state, which were earlier helping the commissionerate police in night patrolling and nakas.
Officials said the use of drugs, liquor was rampant during elections in Punjab and, therefore, it makes sense to depute more forces for conducting fair polls. If the demand is not met by the election commissioner, then officials have to deploy only PAP personnel at polling centres, they added.
Most importantly, after six members of Bhana gang killed two people in Basti Bawa Khel locality on February 27, the police are also taking more precaution with inputs that gangsters may strike in future as Bhana and his accomplices are yet to be arrested.
The rural police have requested 27 companies of central paramilitary forces for covering five remaining assembly constituencies under the parliament seat.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (headquarters) Naveen Singla said, "We have sent a request to the higher authorities and hopefully central forces will reach city on April 2."
