Against the total number of Central paramilitary security forces sought by the Manipur election authority for smooth conduct of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections in the state, Union ministry of home affairs has agreed to provide 40 companies of central security force.
State Election Commission, Manipur has sought 150 companies of central paramilitary force to ensure free and fair voting during in the state which would be held in two phases, on April 9 for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency and April 17 for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
With 40 companies of central security force, a total of 79 companies of central security would be available, an official source in the state CEO said.
Of the total additional security force include, 12 companies of CRPF, 16 companies of BSF and two companies of Railway Protection Forces. It also included 10 companies of the Armed Police Force from Assam.
IGP (Ops) of CRPF Zulfiquor Hasan has been appointed as the chief force coordinators for the purpose of coordination of movement and deployment of the forces provided by the MHA.
The paramilitary forces from outside will start arriving in the state from March 20 onwards for deployment in the first phase of the general elections, sources said.
So far, nearly 200 polling stations in both the Inner and outer Parliamentary Constituencies have been confirmed as hyper-sensitive polling stations. Additional security forces are likely to deploy in these polling stations to ward off any untoward incident during voting.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India has released the fact sheet for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls in Inner and Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituencies.
According to the fact sheet, 2662 polling stations will be opened in the State with an approximate 2057 voters in each polling station.
As on January 15 this year, the total number of voters in the State is 17,39,005, out of which 18.86 percent of the total voters is in the age group of 18 to 25 years. There are 8,94,828 voters in Outer Manipur while 8,44,177 voters in Inner Manipur Constituency.
