Agartala: Ahead of the general elections, the Border
Security Force (BSF) has deployed additional forces along the 856-km
Indo-Bangla international border in Tripura to keep tab on movement of people
in the territory, official sources said today.
BSF DIG B S Rawat said the strength of security forces was
augmented to keep a close vigil so that no unwanted element could enter from
across the border.
“We are also maintaining close coordination with other
security agencies in Tripura and monitoring the intelligence inputs. This high
security measures would continue till the voting process ends in Tripura,” he
told reporters.
Polling for the state’s two Lok Sabha constituencies - West
Tripura and East Tripura (ST Reserve) -- will be held on April 7 and April 12,
respectively.
Sources in the state election department said thirty-five
companies of additional forces had been deployed in the state for peaceful
conduct of the elections.
The Election Commission has decided to set up nine all-women
polling stations in the state considering the track record and good performance
of women polling personnel.
These polling stations would be solely handled by the
females, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Asutosh Jindal said.
Altogether 19,000 polling personnel would be deployed in
3,095 polling stations in the state.
