Rewards to BSF jawans for their performance on Indo-Pak border: Farooqui

Special Sainik Sammelan was organised in BSF Headquarters Amritsar Sector Khasa yesterday, in which officers and jawans of all four battalions of Amritsar sector were felicitated for their excellent performance in guarding the Indo-Pak borders falling in Amritsar Sector.

DIG BSF Amritsar Sector M F Farooqui said, BSF troops did the historic seizure of more than 300 kgs of heroin worth Rs 1500 crore in international market including capture of Arms and Ammunition in the last six months. In this period around ten Pakistan Smugglers were also got killed by BSF.

Mr Farooqui praised the alertness and dutifulness of the officers.

He told the media that BSF has launched a biggest ever drug de-addiction and sensitisation programme to curb the demand of drugs and it has started yielding results.

The function organised at BSF Campus, distributed 91 commendation cards and approx. Rs 5 Lakhs to around hundreds of BSF Officers/SOs and who were stationed at the Indo-Pakistan border in the recent past.

The cash reward received from Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on account of seizure of narcotics was also distributed among the troops on the occasion.

Mr Farooqui stated that such rewards to the troops would boost up the morale and encourage troops in performing their duties with more dedication which would result in big achievements in future as well.

BSF seizes 13 kg heroin in Punjab

Amritsar, April 3 (IANS) In its second major drugs haul within this week, the BSF seized 13 kg of suspected heroin following an gunfight with smugglers near the India-Pakistan border in Punjab, BSF officials said Thursday.

The seizure was made near the Mullakot border outpost in Amritsar sector, 35 km from here, a Border Security Force spokesman said. A pistol and ammunition was also recovered from the spot.

The heroin is said to be valued at Rs.65 crore in the international market. The BSF had seized 27 kg heroin, valued at Rs.135 crore, from the Abohar sector in Punjab Tuesday.

"BSF personnel at Mullakot observed suspicious movement of smugglers on both sides along border security fence. The smugglers were challenged but fired at the BSF troopers. The BSF troopers fired back in defence. However, the smugglers managed to escape taking advantage of darkness and the standing wheat crop," said the spokesman.

With the latest seizure, the BSF has seized nearly 183 kg of heroin in the just over three months of this year. The seizure is valued at Rs.915 crore. The seizure of heroin in the entire last year (2013) was 322 kg in the Punjab sector.

BSF recovers heroin worth Rs 135 crore

AMRITSAR: The Border Security Force (BSF) recovered 27 kilogram heroin valued at around Rs 135 crore in the international market and 2 pistol magazines in Abohar sector on Tuesday.

BSF Inspector General, Frontier, AK Tomar, informed that the narcotic and ammunition was recovered in the area of border out post Khanpur in Abohar sector.

The BSF had also recovered 500 gram opium, 42 rounds of ammunition, 2 Nokia mobile phones and 2 Pak SIM cards said Tomar.

Giving details, Tomar informed that on the intervening night of March 31 and April 1, BSF troops deployed in the area of Khanpur border out post spotted suspicious movement near border security fence following which they challenged the intruders who deliberately ignored them.

"BSF troops challenged the suspects but they did not pay any heed and continued with their aggressive posture which forced our Jawan to fire on them in self-defence and to prevent smuggling attempt" said Tomar.

But the Pakistani smugglers managed to escape taking advantage of darkness.

During search of the area the narcotics and ammunition was recovered.

A day earlier BSF troops had foiled a smuggling attempt near Daoke village in Amritsar sector.

Deputy Inspector General, BSF, Amritsar sector MF Farooqui informed that BSF troops had to open fire on seeing around 6 to 7 Pakistan smugglers entering the Indian territory and were trying to insert the PVC pipe across the border security fence to smuggle packets of heroin.

Farooqui informed that BSF jawans shot 24 rounds following which the Pak smugglers fled back taking cover of standing crop and darkness.

During current year BSF had recovered around 170 kilogram heroin from near Indo Pak border.
